Located in the 16th-century Mocenigo Palace, built between the 16th and 18th centuries, the museum’s 11 rooms cover the city’s history from the Paleolithic period to the Middle Ages. It is said to have one of Italy’s greatest collections of pre-Roman and Roman artifacts, with ancient funerary urns, bronze vases and jewelry. The exhibits are organized in chronological order, starting from the Bronze and Iron Ages, leading up to medieval and modern times. One of the rooms on the ground floor contains a painting by Cima da Conegliano representing the Virgin with Child and a fresco of the Crucifixion by a painter from the Giotto school.
